Wallace Unit Release Paths

Daniel Webster Wallace Unit, unit code WL, is an active male prison in the TDCJ Correctional Institutions Division, Region V. It is not a county jail. TDCJ controls custody, state offender information, release processing, and the institutional record. The Mitchell County Sheriff cannot confirm a Wallace release merely because the unit stands in Mitchell County.

A Wallace departure may be release on parole, release on mandatory supervision, full sentence discharge, or transfer to another TDCJ unit. Parole is conditional release before sentence completion after a Board decision. Mandatory supervision is a distinct supervised release governed by statutory eligibility, time credits, and Board review. Discharge is sentence completion. A unit transfer is continued TDCJ custody. Do not call any one of these another.

Confirm a Wallace Unit Release

Use a layered confirmation process. First, identify the person by TDCJ or State Identification number. If neither is known, combine full legal name with date of birth and conviction county. Second, review the TDCJ current-inmate result while the person remains confined. Third, check Board review status if parole or mandatory supervision is involved. Fourth, after a favorable decision, call the Parole Division release-status line. Finally, request the actual release or discharge record when durable proof is needed.

1. Search the TDCJ current-inmate database with the strongest identifier available.
2. Read the unit, offense, sentence, Projected Release Date, and parole-review fields in context.
3. Call 844-512-0461 for Board review status when applicable.
4. After an approval, call (512) 406-5202 for physical release status.
5. Use IVSS for registered state custody notifications.
6. Request the actual release date, release type, and discharge date through TDCJ OGC.

A favorable Board vote is not proof that the person left the gate. Some votes are conditioned on programs, transfers, release-plan approval, or later processing. A projected date can change because of disciplinary credit loss, detainers, consecutive sentences, new information, or a withdrawn vote. Confirm the event after it occurs.

Wallace Current-Inmate Search Limits

The TDCJ Online Inmate Search accepts last name, first name, TDCJ number, SID number, gender, and race. It expressly lists only inmates currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. This limitation is crucial. When a former Wallace inmate no longer appears, the public search does not turn into a historical release archive. The person could have left TDCJ, moved beyond the database's current scope, or failed to match the search terms. TDCJ confirmation is still required.

General current-inmate information is available at (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. TDCJ also provides a routine no-charge email information route for current inmates, but that route does not supply photographs. Former-inmate release records belong in the formal public-information process.

Wallace Projected Release Dates

Projected Release Date is TDCJ's exact field name. Classification and Records calculates it as the expected end of incarceration unless parole occurs sooner. The offense, offense date, sentence structure, time-credit eligibility, disciplinary forfeitures, mandatory-supervision action, and maximum expiration can affect it. It is not a promise and not an actual-release timestamp.

Texas has no blanket 85 percent formula. Government Code section 508.145 uses different eligibility branches. Many ordinary eligible cases use calendar time plus allowed good time equal to one-fourth of the sentence or 15 years, whichever is less. Listed serious categories generally require one-half of the sentence or 30 calendar years, whichever is less, without good-time credit for that threshold. Other crimes and sentence types have special rules or exclusions. Eligibility permits consideration, not release.

After a favorable vote and release certificate, TDCJ guidance describes a Classification and Records audit that commonly takes 14 to 21 business days. Even a scheduled date may change. Request Wallace Release Records

TDCJ Office of General Counsel accepts public-information requests through its online form, by email at PIA@tdcj.texas.gov, by mail to TDCJ Public Information Request, P.O. Box 4017, Huntsville, TX 77342, or by hand delivery at 2 Financial Plaza, Suite 600, Huntsville, TX 77340. The page publishes no flat fee for a former-inmate request. Ask for electronic records and a cost estimate.

Identify the person by full name, TDCJ or SID number, date of birth, conviction county or cause number, and incarceration range. Ask for records reflecting admission, unit history, actual release date, release type, discharge or maximum-expiration date, and a TDCJ-CID identification photograph if releasable. The actual release date shows the prison departure. The discharge date establishes sentence completion. A parole release often occurs before discharge.

Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs the request, subject to exceptions, privacy rules, and redaction. A routine offender-information email is not a substitute for this former-inmate record and expressly refuses photographs.

Wallace Notifications and Supervision

TDCJ prison notifications use the Integrated Victim Services System, or IVSS, rather than county-jail VINE. Registered users may receive events supported by the state system. A notification is useful corroboration, but the underlying TDCJ record remains the strongest source for the exact release type and discharge status.

After release on parole or mandatory supervision, TDCJ Parole Division controls state supervision. It does not prove that a named person is assigned there. Probation is separate and comes from a court sentence through the 32nd Judicial District CSCD, not TDCJ parole.

Wallace and Mitchell Jail Differ

Mitchell County has two active custodial paths under different governments. Mitchell County Jail is run by the Sheriff and uses a local release-record request. Wallace is run by TDCJ and uses state offender information, parole status, IVSS, and formal TDCJ records. A transfer from the county jail to Wallace is not a release to the community. Likewise, a Wallace transfer to another TDCJ unit is not a state prison release.

The current TDCJ master directory identifies Wallace as the active state unit in the county. The directory is the right place to confirm current unit status.

The former R.C. “Dick” Ware Unit was once co-located but is closed and absent from the active master directory. Historical Ware confinement or release questions belong in a TDCJ records request. Ware should not be treated as a current facility or given present release instructions.

Use the unit for current institutional routing, not as a replacement for TDCJ release-status or public-information channels. Separate the stages of a state case. The Board review line can report a parole review result, while the post-vote Parole Division line addresses processing after a favorable decision. IVSS can provide registered event notices. None replaces a formal TDCJ record stating the actual release date, release type, or discharge date. A person can leave Wallace on parole or mandatory supervision while the sentence continues, so physical release and full discharge are not the same event.

Use the TDCJ or SID number when available. It is stronger than a name-only match and helps TDCJ connect the request to the correct Wallace custody record.

A court judgment may supply the conviction, sentence, and legal basis for custody, but TDCJ calculates the state term and records the actual prison release and discharge.
